My first baby of 2013 joined this world on January 1, 2013! It was a fabulous birth with a great couple, the baby’s aunt and a wonderful midwife team. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2013. The best part is the beauty and alertness of this sweet baby, check her out!
This morning, the last day of 2012, I was invited to a very special birth. This baby decided to come a little early and once she decided she was coming, she came quick! Her dad had the honour of catching her and her big sister was right there to welcome her new sibling into the world. A beautiful note to leave 2012 with. Happy New Years and best wishes in 2013! Here are a few pictures of this sweet baby.
As a year-end project, I have decided to put together a slideshow of some of my favorite images from the births that I have attended over the last year. I recently broke sixty births and forty of them were in 2012! I hope while watching this slideshow you will get to experience how I see birth, in all of it’s beauty. Thank you to all the parents who have shared your images. In this slideshow there are images of baby’s being born as well as some nudity. Music by Eleanor Murray, Cedar, “Electric Sky.”http://eleanormurray.com check out her site for more amazing music!

It wasn’t how this mama wanted to spend her Christmas morning, with waves of contractions and the intensity of labour. But by evening, just before midnight, C and J’s baby was born into this world. A perfect baby girl born on Christmas day. Happiness filled the room as this little lady joined us, looking like she was covered in snow. She was covered in vernix (a white creamy substance covering the skin of the fetus during the last trimester of pregnancy) and alert as can be. Here is a sneak peek of this sweet girl.
I am lucky to be part of an online birth photographer community. This group has helped inspire me over the last two years with information and inspiration. The best part is the slideshows we produce as a community. This one has 72 birth photographers from all over the world who have contributed their images of siblings at births. Sit back and enjoy the show!
I got the call, baby London was ready to arrive. He came into this world just as the clocks turned to 12.13.12. What an incredible journey it was, mom and dad pulled their baby up into their arms with so much joy it was contagious.
Happy second birthday to my sweet friend Florence. You have been deep in my heart ever since you were born and I know you are deep in many others hearts. We love you Florence happy second birthday. <3 <3 <3
I took this photo one year ago to celebrate Florence's first birthday.
This was one year ago today. It was such a special birth with grandma, dad and three kids there to witness the birth of their brother. The energy in the room was amazing. It still sits with me and for that I am forever grateful. Happy birthday sweet boy. <3
You know in labour when you push yourself further then you ever imagine going... then some how you find more so you keep on pushing until your baby is born. I love this part of birth and I love this mama's focus and strength. <3

10 years ago I was in labour with my second child, my first son. It was a lovely sunny crisp day. I had an amazing home birth with five women and my husband all supporting me through the wildness of labour and birth. You never forget your birthing day because it is one of the most powerful times in your life. The day you bring a human you created in your body, into this world. Amazing.
This is our first family picture taken with our amazing 2004 digital camera. HA! I love my endorphin rich eyes.
Thank you K. man (my son) for teaching me that it doesn't matter how you parent or what you do, you will be who you will be, because you are your own person- right from birth. <3
'Saying "Yes" to homebirth' is a blog post by Candied Chaos that was inspired by this picture.
I am so happy my clients images are inspiring people to think about their care during their pregnancies and births. I love how realistic this post is - enjoy this read with your morning coffee and maybe you will be inspired to think about how your care provider will effect your birth.
She is interviewing an OB in the USA who does home births. His take on the time limits in birth, vaginal exams and the ever increasing caesarean rate is refreshing and wonderful. If you have time please listen and share every pregnant woman should hear this and question everything!
I think I might listen to it again to remind myself why educating women is so important before they jump into our birth system. Thanks Gena for staying strong and spreading the word or normal birth. xo
