I was lucky to attend a local Vancouver doula’s birth yesterday. Her baby was breech and decided to come 2.5 weeks early. E. + M. wanted to have labour and let their baby decide when she was ready to be born. That they did. It was truly a very special day.
This is a few moments of the day their sweet girl was born.
After labour began E. + M. went to the hospital to have her baby. In admitting Dr. Bloomenthal checked to see that E. + M.’s baby was still breech. It was so sweet to see her face everyone was in tears including me!
Labour was well underway so we headed to her room. E. + M. spent hours in the shower while the fabulous Midwife, Dawn Henderson, who checked in on the baby frequently to make sure everything was good.
E. is a Vancouver doula. She pushed herself so far I was moved by her power and determination. She gave her baby and her body so many wonderful things going through the birth process. Look at the work this mama did. She is amazing.
After a day of labour and lots of work it was time to meet their baby.
Dad got to come right over and give her some love. I love how the paediatricians stopped to let them have their moment.
This sweet girl only wanted one thing … her mama!
Tiny breech baby feet.
Mom finding out she’s a girl!!!
That moment when it is all done and you are holding your sweet baby. Bliss.
Just like that they are a family of three.
Perfection!

This is so beautiful, it really touch my heart and make me cry, congrats. Elena and Mike again, God Bless both of you and the beautiful baby.love you
What a sweet post. This all is very familiar to me; it is much in line with my own birth experience with my second child. (My first was a crash csection, so a natural VBAC was very important to me). I labored with my second for 36 painful hours. But, I watched my body work, and it worked well. I dilated naturally, my water broke naturally, and just as naturally, I began to reverse dilate. No one knew why, baby wasn’t in distress or showing any signs of trouble. We moved forward with the csection, and baby had the cord around his neck twice. He couldn’t descend. Our bodies are beautiful. What a gift this mama gave her child by allowing labor to take it’s course. Love to their new family! Beautiful images.
This birth story is beautiful. My heart strings were pulled in the similarities between my first born breechling and this baby girl. Thank you for sharing.
