Kittens Summer 2014

Our family is helping out the Delta Community Animal Shelter with fostering one of their pregnant cats, Sparkles. She came to live with us and gave birth to six beautiful babies on July 9, 2014. I have decided to document her journey here so my facebook page doesn’t over flow with kitten photos.

As cute as these kittens are please spay and neuter your pets! They have a shelter full of unwanted cats!!! If you are interested in adopting any of these kittens please apply through Delta Community Animal Shelter  or if you want to make a donation. Join their facebook page here.

This is Sparkles. She is such a lovely cat I hope she finds a wonderful home where she can be loved. I promised my husband I wouldn’t keep any so she will have to go back to the shelter when she is done raising her babies.

Here she is two weeks before she gave birth.

WARNING – The images following are graphic in nature. They are images from Sparkles birth. The babies are born in their amniotic sac’s then the mom licks and eats the sac to set them free or they stretch their legs and it pops.

My daughter weighed each of them and charted it like a good midwife.

July 13, 2014 – The kittens have names!

The kids decided to go with a Mario Brothers theme. But I have three kids so it is Mario with a infusion of other characters that are important to a five year old.

This is ‘Peach Monroe’ she is the biggest of the girls.

This is ‘Mario‘ he is the biggest of the bunch and has no problem finding lunch.

This sweet girl is black and white with a dot on her back. Her face almost looks tabby though. Her name is ‘Daisy.’

AppleBlossomFamilies-1-6

The biggest and fluffiest of the black kittens. He reminds me of a baby bear. This is ‘Luigi‘ or ‘Lee’ for short to make the five year old happy. 🙂

Then the tiny ones… this is ‘Rosalina‘ she is a the second runt of the bunch.

And lastly the smallest little guy –  ‘Stampy Toad‘ also named by the 5 year old. He was born just 77 grams and is gaining slowly. He often wanders around looking for boob while the others are chugging away. But he is the best at crawling! UPDATE *** Stampy Toad didn’t survive the first week, a sad but normal part of life. RIP little guy.

Absolutely splendid! This is a testament to your ability as a photographer to be unobtrusive when shooting births… everyone knows cats stop birthing and go hide somewhere else when they feel watched. And well, you were at my birth too so I know you are good at being invisible when you want to be 🙂

I chuckled at the weighing and charting and then laughed out loud because I think we left that grey receiving blanket at your house! Which was actually left at my place by someone else. So happy to know that it’s getting it’s fair share of baby-love.

    Great work, I love this.

look how she knew just what to do, how to trust her births! those little stretching new kits are just about too much. and now i want to be a cat midwife.
